KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lisa Holton was honored at the Conference Championships closing awards ceremony Tuesday by her fellow Heart of American Athletic Conference (HAAC) Women’s Golf coaches when they voted her “Coach of the Year.”

This is Holton’s first year as the Eagles head coach after taking the reins from Jerry Krause last fall.  Holton attributes much of her success to her predecessor, Krause, who also won the HAAC Coach of the Year award in 2009 and 2007.

“This is quite a surprise and an honor that they all think so much of my coaching. They are all fine coaches themselves,” said Holton.

The Avila Lady Eagles golf team ended their season Tuesday, finishing second at the HAAC Championships at Eagles’ Landing in Belton, MO.  The Eagles, finishing with a team score of 702, ended the tournament just six strokes behind 11 time HAAC winners Lindenwood University.

Holton will be looking to repeat the award next season on the men’s side as she is leading the new Avila Men’s Golf Team beginning this fall.  She will remain the women’s head coach.

Krause, who was an assistant coach this year, is retiring from coaching after starting the Lady Eagles golf team eight years ago.
