KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Avila Lady Eagles golf team finished second at the Heart of American Athletic Conference (HAAC) Championships at Eagles’ Landing in Belton, MO. The Eagles ended the day just six strokes behind Lindenwood University, winners of the last 11 HAAC titles, finishing with a team score of 702.
All HAAC honors were earned by three Lady Eagles. Senior Ashley Ratliff (Leawood, KS) finished the tournament third overall with a 168 (84, 84), and just six shots off of Lindenwood’s Emily Tebow (162), who finished first. Senior Anna Frazier (Leawood, KS) finished fifth overall with a 171 (88, 83). Junior Madeline Willmore (Topeka, KS) finished eighth overall with a 177 (90, 87).
Going into the second day the Eagles were 10 strokes behind Lindenwood University and 24 shots ahead of Baker University. Even with the 20-30 mile an hour wind gusts, each member of the team improved or matched their scores, and as a team finished 20 strokes better than from the day before. Sophomore Emily Ryan (Kansas City, MO) led the way shooting 12 shots better scoring an 87 in the second round. Ryan finished the tournament in 11th place with a final score of 186 (99, 87).
