According to official documentation, Avila's foundation is built on strong values that deal with helping individuals learn and grow regardless of their background. This causes us to reach out to the community and recruit the youngest members thereof. On the other hand, Avila University is a business that requires money for projects and profits. Obtaining more recruits provides the money Avila needs, obtaining money brings more recruits to Avila, and the cycle continues. Among various members of the Avila Community, the pressing question is: Where do the students fit in this cycle? While almost as many students appear to be at Avila compared to last semester, it also appears that our community lost several students. Oddly enough, several students who left Avila were good students who wanted to stay at the University. Some of these students mentioned changing their major to one that was not offered at Avila, yet others found they had less money helping them than expected. On the other hand, these two reasons are only from the side that loved Avila while they parted ways and discussed it. We may never really know the full reasoning of other students who left Avila University, but there are ways to find simple reasons for why we are not keeping them. If student concerns are addressed when they are mentioned, that is one student we retain. If student voices and employee voices are trusted on the same level as one another, there is a group of five students who will stay. If everyone in the Avila community helps one another and welcomes one another the same way they would do for recruits, that is an inconceivable number of students who will stay and support Avila University for years to come.
