The student chapter of the IABC or International Association for Business Communications is making a name for itself around the Avila University community. The second largest communications group in the world with nearly 16,000 members and reaching nearly 80 countries, only behind the Public Relations Society of America. The main goal of the IABC is to help develop skills in communicating and keep up with the current trends that the communities deal with. The contacts range from CEO's to managers of small and large companies in the networking making this not only a campus organization but also a widely used business organization. The IABC is helping students learn government relations, communication teachings, and many other communication strategies. It provides professional resources for jobs and clients as well. Avila University students join to network and participate in local, and national events.
The IABC student chapter at Avila University has ten to fifteen members that join each year and is run by students of the communications and business. It was started three years ago. According to Linda Strelluf the IABC reached Avila University when a graduated student Ben Digman came to her office telling her how much the organization would help students in the future for their careers and wanted to know if Avila was doing anything with it. The president of the organization Trisha Simmons runs it and is currently working on a project with a media kit for the Bronze Quill contest, which is done, through the IABC. In the United States, dues for a 12-month period are USD $46 but to join at Avila it is slightly cheaper just being $30. Meeting times vary to help work around students schedules, but anyone is more than welcome to join.
