GAP and NOT the Store!

What do you think of when you see or hear the word GAP?  Most of you would think of GAP the store, but actually there is more of a meaning to GAP.  Here at Avila we have an organization called Group Activities Programming (GAP).  Nate Adamson, a junior at Avila, describes GAP as "It is a group at the school that organizes activities, like singers, to come and perform for the students."  According to their information on Avila's website this organization "plans and promotes a variety of social, cultural, recreation, and education events and activities to meet the co-curricular needs of the entire student body."  Nate also describes how he thinks it also brings students together to go out and meet new people at the school.  Quinn Kazanecki, treasurer of GAP, says, "The events that we provide help Avila by giving students things to do because if we were not here there wouldn't be as many things for students to get involved in."

GAP hosts many events around Avila.  "With GAP, we try our hardest to bring in events as often as we can and to also bring in events that the students will love," says Mindy Kinnaman, who is in charge of GAP with Jason Baldwin.  This year they have provided comedians, musicians, and even a magician for the students to enjoy.  They still have more to come for this year.  Mindy mentioned to me that there will be comedian/educational speaker, a documentary filmer, and many events for the Spring Fling.  So be looking around for flyers and students promoting those events!

If you are interested in getting involved, join in on their meetings that are held every Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Barefoot Room in the Marian Center.  Mindy told me "Students are welcome to contact any GAP member or just show up to our meetings.  We are here for the students and want to give them the most memorable college experience possible."  They also have a page on Facebook under Avila GAP that you can join.  "We would like more people to get involved by just pitching in 1 or 2 events to help us out by contributing your own talents," says Quinn.
